I have a preliminary hearing scheduled for later this month and would like to know what to expect. Do I need to go over anything with my lawyer first?
I would certainly recommend reviewing your case with an attorney prior to attending a preliminary hearing. First of all, you attorney will have greater insight about the facts after reviewing you case with you and will be able to be more effective when cross examining the witnesses. It is also crucial that the attorney know if there are any issues relating to identification. If for instance you are charged with robbery and your defense is going to be misidentification it is important that your attorney know this. This way he or she can ask the judge for a lineup and you can be sequestered somewhere outside the courtroom where the victim can not see you.
